NuCas Co-Founder and CEO
Lucy Nixon is a forward-thinking legal leader with two decades of experience driving transformation across law firms and in-house teams. She has built and scaled three legal businesses, including the award-winning Carillion Advice Services (CAS) and Clifford Chance’s Newcastle Delivery Centre.
Known for her strategic vision and people-first approach, Lucy blends legal expertise with cutting-edge technology and process expertise to deliver innovative, effective legal solutions. Her work has earned multiple industry accolades, and she continues to champion excellence, inclusion, and disruption in legal services.
Meet Richard
NuCas Co-Founder and Chair
Richard Tapp was General Counsel at Blue Circle Industries PLC before moving on to become Director of Legal Services and Company Secretary of Carillon plc, and has written and spoken extensively on in-house legal matters, including three practitioner texts - Managing External Legal Resources, The In-House Lawyers’ Toolkit, and The Future of the In-House Lawyer.
He went on to be the founder of CAS. A visionary first-mover, he consults and writes extensively on legal management issues.

Director of Operations
Ellie is an accomplished Operations Director with a proven track record of delivering operational excellence and strategic leadership in the legal sector. With over six years of experience at a Magic Circle law firm, Ellie has played a pivotal role in managing and delivering complex legal workstreams, driving efficiency, and enhancing client service delivery across a range of practice areas.
Ellie’s client-centric mindset has consistently translated into measurable improvements in service quality. She is also deeply engaged in the rapidly evolving landscape of legal technology, with a strong proficiency in leveraging tools and platforms to streamline legal operations and drive efficiencies.
Meet Nick
NuCAS Advisor
Nick is an investor in NuCAS, with a significant track record of incubating and exiting from successful businesses in the legal and tech sectors. In addition to having 20 years’ experience running Crasner Consulting, which works in the legal industry advising some of the world’s most prominent Law Firms and legal departments on strategy innovation and growth; Nick is also Founder of Crasner Capital, an investment bank and Crasner Ventures, a Venture Capital Platform. Amongst multiple other awards, Nick has been recognised as an “ Agent of Change” alongside multiple globally renowned CEO’s for his gender equality advocacy and dedication to DE&I.
Our Story
Lucy and Richard first joined forces in 2011, united by a bold ambition: to reimagine the delivery of legal services. In 2012, they founded CAS—a spin-out from Carillion plc’s in-house legal team and a true disruptor in the legal market. Their pioneering model, built around talented graduates, streamlined processes, and early adoption of legal technology, set a new benchmark. Their commitment to legal apprenticeships also helped open doors for future generations, championing diversity and social mobility across the profession.
CAS’s success led to its acquisition by magic circle firm Clifford Chance in 2018, with Lucy continuing to lead and grow the business as Clifford Chance’s northern office.
In 2024, Lucy and Richard reunited. What they discovered was sobering: many of the challenges they had once addressed not only remained but had grown more entrenched.
That realisation sparked the creation of this new venture.Fuelled by a shared passion for meaningful change and excellence, Lucy and Richard bring deep industry insight, extensive experience, and a relentless focus on practical solutions. Energised by the transformative power of AI, they are once again challenging the status quo—reshaping the future of legal services with purpose and precision.
In 2025 Ellie was brought onboard as the Director of Operations. Ellie had significant experience at a Magic Circle law firm, where she was known for driving operational excellence and delivering exceptional client outcomes.
